In an attempt to strengthen its map and location service, Facebook has bought Glancee, which is a location based social app. Glancee is an app which lets you discover who amongst your social connections are physically around you, is an attempt to bring the physical and digital world together.Facebook, is still hungry for startups, after its recent acquisition of Instagram for a whooping $1 billion, Glancee joined the list, and again was a surprise for everyone. Though the amount is not yet disclosed but everyone's guessing it to be overpaid again(just like Instgram was).
Facebook is in lots of news these days, with its upcoming IPO, it will be very helpful for Facebook to get the best out of that.
Glancee will stop with its functioning, and all the staff of Glancee will be joining Facebook. Facebook confirmed the deal in written statement :
We are thrilled to confirm that Facebook has acquired Glancee. The acquisition closed today. We can’t wait for co-founders Andrea, Alberto, and Gabriel (Chief Executive Officer Andrea Vaccari, Chief Operating Officer Alberto Tretti, and Chief Technology Officer Gabriel Grise) to join the Facebook team to work on products that help people discover new places and share them with friends.
